Our Mission

Section A. Mission The Specialty Medicine Interest Club seeks to support and connect medical students interested in specialty fields of medicine through education, professional development, and mentorship. 

Section B. Purpose The organization aims to: 路 Promote awareness of diverse medical specialties, including but not limited to psychiatry, neurology, dermatology, anesthesiology, oncology, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, and radiology. 路 Support student career exploration and informed specialty decision-making 路 Connect students with faculty, residents, and practicing physicians 路 Provide opportunities for skills workshops and panels 路 Foster interdisciplinary collaboration across specialties 路 Engage in community outreach and service when appropriate

Services Provided

The primary service of the organization is to better inform students at HCOM of several opportunities for specialization in the medical field as osteopathic physicians and provide them with opportunities to explore those specialties meaningfully prior to clinical rotations or residency. The organization does not include any specific philanthropic events, but has a purpose of engaging in community outreach and service when appropriate.

Tentative Schedule for 2026-2027

The Specialty Medicine Club at 91原创 Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine plans to sponsor a variety of educational, professional development, networking, and mentorship events throughout the academic year. 

Fall semester: 

  • Host a Specialty Exploration Event designed to introduce students to a broad range of medical specialties and provide early guidance regarding residency pathways and specialty decision-making.  
  • Physician and resident panel discussions 
  • Specialty-specific workshops 
  • Career development sessions focused on research involvement, networking, mentorship, and residency preparation. 

*Several events may be conducted jointly with other specialty interest groups and student organizations, including groups related to surgery, emergency medicine, psychiatry, internal medicine, and radiology, depending on the topic and availability of collaborators.  

Spring semester: 

  • Specialty panels and workshops while expanding opportunities for networking and community engagement. 
  • Alumni and faculty networking events 
  • Specialty-focused skills workshops 
  • Community outreach or health education initiatives relevant to represented specialties. 
  • Facilitate mentorship opportunities between students, residents, faculty, and practicing physicians across a variety of specialty fields. 

*Additional collaborative events may be organized with other student organizations, Residency Advising, Medical Alumni Engagement, and specialty departments within the college. The organization intends to finance events primarily through membership dues, university student organization funding, and co-sponsored events with partnering student organizations. The club may also pursue departmental support, alumni engagement opportunities, and modest fundraising activities, such as restaurant fundraiser nights or merchandise sales, if additional funding is needed to support programming and event materials.
