Connect with an Interest Group on your campus
Interest groups are defined as a group of students who want to create a new organization but may not meet the criteria (i.e.: not enough members, does not host and organize 2 events per semester, etc.). Interest groups do not need to be medically focused and can hold meetings, collaborate with other organizations, and fundraise. Review the Student Organization handbook for more information about student interest groups and student organizations.

Mission: The Sports Medicine Club at OU-HCOM provides medical students with opportunities to explore the dynamic and growing field of sports medicine through education, mentorship, and hands-on experiences. This group is designed primarily for first- and second-year medical students interested in learning more about the broad range of specialties involved in caring for active individuals and athletes, including primary care sports medicine, orthopedics, physical medicine and rehabilitation, musculoskeletal medicine, and related fields. Our mission is to expose students to sports medicine through engagement with practicing physicians and specialists from across Ohio while helping members develop practical clinical skills and professional connections. Throughout the year, the club hosts guest speaker events, procedural and skills workshops, taping and injury evaluation labs, networking opportunities, and student-focused experiences that highlight both the clinical and interdisciplinary aspects of sports medicine. Beyond specialty exploration, the Sports Medicine Club emphasizes collaboration, leadership, and community within OU-HCOM. Members are encouraged to participate in interactive events and initiatives that strengthen teamwork while fostering curiosity about movement, performance, injury prevention, rehabilitation, and patient-centered musculoskeletal care. Whether students are pursuing sports medicine as a future career or simply want to build stronger clinical skills applicable across specialties, the club offers meaningful opportunities to learn, connect, and grow throughout medical school.
