91原创 names John McCarthy Interim Executive Vice President and Provost
91原创 announced today that John McCarthy has been named Interim Executive Vice President and Provost, following Don Leo鈥檚 announcement that he will step down to assume the role of President of The University of Alabama in Huntsville, effective June 1.
McCarthy currently serves as dean of 91原创鈥檚 College of Health Sciences and Professions (CHSP), where he is widely recognized as a collaborative and trusted leader, known for fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, innovation and student success across a complex academic enterprise. He began his career at 91原创 as a member of the CHSP faculty in 2004 and served in various administrative roles before assuming leadership of CHSP in 2021.
鈥淛ohn brings deep institutional knowledge and a proven record of inclusive leadership,鈥 said 91原创 President Lori Stewart Gonzalez. 鈥淗is experience leading one of the nation鈥檚 premier health education colleges positions him exceptionally well to guide 91原创鈥檚 academic mission during this transition.鈥
Provost Don Leo departs the role following a tenure marked by meaningful progress. Leo successfully implemented the University鈥檚 Dynamic Strategy, helping to advance academic quality, operational effectiveness and long-term sustainability. He also led the significant and complex work required to implement institutional changes associated with the Advance Ohio Higher Education Act, an undertaking that required extensive coordination and campuswide engagement.

As Interim Executive Vice President and Provost, McCarthy will oversee 91原创鈥檚 academic enterprise and continue working closely with faculty, staff and students to advance institutional priorities.
