The Mathematics B.S. major is a terrific choice for future researchers, educators, and so much more. It focuses on rigorous and practical mathematical training, with possibilities for a combination with another major in science, technology, and/or engineering.
Accelerated Graduate Pathway: Mathematics
The Mathematics Department offers an Accelerated Graduate Pathway (AGP) in Mathematics where students can combine both bachelor's and master's degree studies and earn their degrees more quickly. These programs are competitive programs suitable for qualified and motivated individuals.
How It Works
The Accelerated Graduate Pathway in Mathematics allows academically advanced undergraduate students enrolled in the Mathematics Major (B.S.), Mathematics—Applied Major (B.S.), Mathematics—Actuarial Science Major (B.S.), or the Mathematics—Mathematical Statistics Major (B.S.) to take graduate-level coursework toward completion of the requirements for a Master of Science in Mathematics while completing their undergraduate degree requirements.
Students in the AGP may apply up to 9 credit hours of graduate-level coursework toward the bachelor’s degree and up to 16 credit hours toward the master’s degree, while still an undergraduate.
Start with a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics
-
Applied Mathematics Major
The Applied Mathematics program teaches you how to apply mathematical concepts and systems to practical fields and uses. Various electives in topics like chemistry, biology, and engineering enable you to tailor this degree according to your interests or future career prospects.
-
Mathematical Statistics Major
The Mathematical Statistics program prioritizes statistics courses and analysis techniques. Students understand the foundations and applications of statistics, so it's ideal for pursuing high-paying jobs in the business, government, education, and industrial sectors.
-
Actuarial Science Major
The Actuarial Science program is the go-to mathematics degree choice for future actuaries. Actuarial science majors will be ready to pass their first actuarial exams before they graduate, as well as be practically prepared for jobs in financial services, insurance, transportation, and other industries.
Finish with a Master's Degree
-
Master of Science in Mathematics
Our Mathematics graduate programs are home to students seeking knowledge of advanced mathematics — knowledge for application to other areas or knowledge for its own sake. So many questions remain to be solved in number theory, theoretical computer science, and more.
Admissions Information
Students will be eligible to apply for the AGP in Mathematics when they have earned 60 credit hours.
The AGP in Mathematics is a competitive program for highly qualified individuals.
- Applicants must have at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA or a 3.0 cumulative GPA with a 3.5 or higher GPA in the most recent 30 credit hours.
- Applicants must also have completed MATH 3200 or MATH 3210, MATH 3300, and MATH 3400 or MATH 3500.
- Applicants must obtain a letter of recommendation from a faculty member who is willing to serve as their graduate advisor, contingent on the student’s continued good standing in both the bachelor’s and master’s degree programs.
