    Revealing Near-Field Optical Chirality on Achiral Gold Nanoparticles


    Dr. Alexander Govorov and international collaborators published on ACS Nano in detecting gold nanoparticle chirality using linearly polarized light, "Beyond Geometrical Symmetry: Revealing Near-Field Optical Chirality on Achiral Gold Nanoparticles under Linear Polarization Excitation."

    Govorov Explores Efficient and Reversible Chirality Induction


    Dr. Alexander Govorov and colleagues published "Efficient and reversible chirality induction between protein and achiral plasmonic assemblies" in the Journal Nature Materials. They show "that the mechanical stretching of protein molecules anchored within achiral gold nanoparticle assemblies strongly enhances and reversibly modulates plasmon-coupled circular dichroism."

    NQPI distinguished Prof. Govorov collaborated with Prof. Chang Group at UMass-Dartmouth to develop a new microscope design for artifact-free dark-field imaging of chiral nanoparticles, a critical tool for the field.

    Dr. Saw-Wai Hla has been named the 2024 Laureate in the Physical Sciences by the prestigious for his ground-breaking research creating the world's first X-ray of a single atom. He also received Feynman Prize for excellence in nanotechnology experimentation.

    Biotesting with Less Expensive Materials: Replacing Colloidal Gold


    Lateral flow testing technology has been around for decades, but only recently received widespread use and attention during the coronavirus pandemic in the form of COVID-19 tests. A large part of what makes most lateral flow assay (LFA) tests function is gold. The OHIO team鈥檚 work consisted of using titanium nitride (TiN) and gold-covered copper (Cu@Au) nanoparticles as components in test kits for the first time.
