Core Cash Support Program
The Core Cash Support Program, funded by the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine Office of Research and Grants (ORG), is a 1:1 matching funds program developed to provide support to Heritage College faculty and members of Heritage College institutes (Diabetes Institute, Infectious and Tropical Disease Institute and Ohio Musculoskeletal and Neurological Institute) who submit external grants through the institutes. Core Cash may be used to pay for services provided at Heritage College Core Equipment Facilities which include: Microscopy Core, Histology Core, and Mouse Metabolic Phenotyping Core. A comprehensive list of each core鈥檚 services can be found on their respective websites.
Eligible faculty (tenure-track/tenured and research faculty of the Heritage College or faculty investigators of one of the Heritage College Institutes listed above) can request Core Cash to support new research projects and to train medical students, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
Faculty may receive up to one award per fiscal year (subject to approval) and cannot have more than one active award at a time. Awards must be expended within two years of the award date. Remaining funds after the award end date will be returned to the Office of Research and Grants. Extensions will not be granted unless there are extenuating circumstances.
Prior to submitting a proposal for Core Cash, the eligible faculty member should consult leadership from the respective core facility to develop a budget and to determine appropriate timing for core facility use. Additionally, the faculty member must secure match funding from other resources. If approved, core cash and match funding will be charged equally each month as services are utilized. Some potential match funding suggestions include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Individual Research Incentive Account
- Start-up Funds
- Center/Institute Research Incentive Account
- Departmental Research Incentive Account
- Internal funding mechanisms through the Vice President for Research and Creative Activity
Please note that if match funds cannot be secured, faculty/principal investigator may request an exception by explaining the extenuating circumstances. Proposals are reviewed bi-monthly by the Heritage College Associate Dean of Research and Innovation and the Heritage College Finance office and awarded based on the project, potential for extramural funding and availability of core resources and funding.
To request funding, please submit a brief proposal (2-page limit) with the following information using the : project description; plans for seeking extramural funding; budget and justification; and matching funds information (unit, contact person, account number). Also, Core Cash may only be utilized for services within the respective core facility/facilities outlined in the proposal. Consumables and supplies not included in these established fees are the responsibility of the faculty member.
