MyOHIO Success Network

A Proactive Approach to Student Success

The MyOHIO Success Network is an early alert initiative designed to help students stay engaged and succeed academically by proactively identifying those who may need additional support. By enabling the university community to intervene early, this initiative ensures that students receive the guidance and resources necessary to stay on track. Supported by Slate for Current Students (Slate-CS), a technology that integrates reliable student data with university systems to provide valuable insights and actionable information.

  • Advisors and support teams receive notifications about student progress, allowing them to offer timely, personalized assistance.
  • Students are kept informed about their academic progress and are directly connected to their support network, which includes advisors, faculty, and other campus resources.
  • Faculty members provide ongoing feedback, ensuring students are aware of available support services that can help them overcome any challenges they may face.

By fostering stronger connections between students and their support network, the MyOHIO Success Network reinforces the university’s commitment to student success and well-being.

  • Log in to Slate-CS upon receiving an email notification.
  • Review the alert details and determine the best way to reach out.
  • Provide timely support and guidance to help your student stay on track.

Understanding Alerts

Alerts build in the system are based on key student success indicators such as:

  • New Student Success Survey student responses
  • Mid-Term Progress Survey feedback from faculty
  • Lack of logins for asynchronous Learning Management System courses
  • Academic alerts raised by faculty

Both students and advisors are notified when an alert is raised, allowing for prompt intervention. You can view alerts in the after logging into Slate-CS.

Alert Categories and Advisor Actions

Alerts are categorized to help track progress:

  • Active – The alert requires the student's advisor's attention.
  • Initial Outreach – The student has already received an automated message from the system with resources.
  • Addressed – Further contact attempts have been made by the student's success advisor, but no response yet from the student.
  • Resolved– The advisor has successfully connected with the student.

When an advisee receives an alert, be sure to:

  • Reach out to the student promptly.
  • Update the alert status as needed.
  • Add advising notes to keep records updated and to close the loop.

Continuous Improvement & Feedback

As we enhance the system, your feedback is valuable. If you have suggestions for new alerts, student data points, or additional support features, we welcome your input.

How to Use MyOHIO Success Network to Support Student Success

Faculty engagement through the MyOHIO Success Network makes a meaningful difference in students’ academic journeys. Faculty play a crucial role in student retention and success by submitting early alerts through the MyOHIO Success Network. These alerts notify both students and their advisors about academic progress, allowing for timely interventions that can prevent minor challenges from escalating into major setbacks, such as course withdrawal, failure, or academic dismissal. By taking the time to submit alerts and feedback, faculty members play an essential role in fostering student success, enhancing retention, and reducing attrition

Why Faculty Alerts Matter

Faculty involvement provides critical insights that enable advisors to offer support before it is too late. Without faculty input, advisors may not become aware of a student’s struggles until the end of the semester, limiting their ability to help. By providing formative feedback, faculty not only support students academically but also strengthen their sense of connection and belonging, which encourages persistence and motivation.

When students see that their faculty members have noticed their challenges and reached out with concern, they are more likely to engage, seek help, and take proactive steps toward improvement. Additionally, recognizing students who are performing well through positive feedback can reinforce their efforts and motivation.

How to Raise an Early Alert

Faculty can submit academic concern alerts at any time during the semester using the alert form in the Faculty & Advising Center class list.

Additionally, all instructors of record will receive an email prompting them to complete the Mid-Term Progress Survey, which is a key opportunity to provide formative feedback. This mid-semester check-in helps students adjust their study habits and organizational skills if needed, allowing them to get back on track and succeed in their courses.

Prioritizing Feedback for High-Enrollment Courses

If you are teaching a high-enrollment course and have time constraints, consider prioritizing feedback for students who are struggling the most. These students would benefit greatly from an advisor’s outreach and support.
